Auxerre wins tournament 2009
07.06.2009
French debutant Auxerre has won the 20th Marveld Tournament under 15 by beating Real Madrid with 2-1 in the final match.

Despite being the convincing leader after two days, Real Madrid lost last year’s crossfinal and had to compete for the third place. So this year they were determined to take revenge. After finishing second (behind Auxerre) in their group by beating Locomotiv Moscow by penalties they met the French team for the second time this tournament. Auxerre won the group match and proved this was not a stroke of luck when they beat Real Madrid again in the final game.
Every year a team of scouts singles out the best keeper and player of the tournament. This year it was quite difficult to find a goalkeeper because of the many substitutions. However Alfonso Herrero Peinador from Real Madrid outshined the others by proving to be a good coach in the field, staying the boss in his own goal area, showing good reactions and last but certainly not least by preventing goals.
FC Twente/Heracles player Mirco Born who played all the matches, was announced best tournament player because of his fast and explosive play, showing physical strength in duels and having a good scoring power. That was not the only prize for Born because with five goals he also became top scorer.
Mart Willemsen became most valuable player of home team SV Grol. According to the jury he is a die-hard and an example for the group on the field as well as outside. With his personality this captain is an extension for the coach and staff.
The incentive prize went to Twan Scholten who positioned himself among the best players of the team. Despite being a new role to him he was an excellent back who give himself for 100% and never gave up. On the whole the staff had nothing but compliments for the entire Grol team’s behavior on and off the fields.
Two Marveld Tournament foreign debutants managed to reach the match for the 3rd and 4th position. Spanish Valencia and Russian Lokomotiv Moscow already met in a group match which ended undecided in a draw. In their second meeting the tension mounted and eventually Locomotiv Moscow managed to put the 1-0 on the scoreboard and went home with the third position while Valencia marked the fourth spot.
Best Dutch team became FC Twente/Heracles which met both finalists in their group. Against Real Madrid they lost with a small 0-1 but they ended their last group match with a 2-0 victory against later champignon Auxerre. At the end they beat Belgian Anderlecht and positioned themselves on the 5th spot. 17th time Marveld Tournament participants Feyenoord met debutant Red Star Belgrade in the match for the 7th and 8th position. The Serbian club won this game and ended 7 while Feyenoord had to settle for the 8th place.
PSV from Eindhoven and English Manchester United played for the 9th and 10th position. PSV won 4-1 from Manchester United who brought a rather young team. One could read exactly the same figures on the scoreboard at the match between local SV Grol and last years champignon Hertha BSC. This time it was the German team who made 4 goals. SV Grol ended at the bottom of the list but they did this with very creditable football.
The Marveld Tournament under 15 organization is very satisfied about this twenty anniversary edition. The number of visitors was great, there have been no really serious injuries and even the weather gods were well-inclined. It started to rain on Saturday only after the last whistle and further on it was lovely weather to play sports, not too warm and not too cold. The atmosphere on the sports park was formidable.
